2.6.31-12.40/41 generic. Retaining kernel 2.6.31-11 as workaround and

The kernel meta-packages (linux, linux-generic etc) do not seem to
trigger an upgrade to *-15.49 although the new packages are shown in
Synaptic after a reload in the what's new in repository section. If this
is widespread, it does not seem normal behavior and will make it harder
for novice users t

installed, Synaptic wants to remove the associated meta-package as well.

xsplash doesn't handle several screens on intel
Has anyone, apart from Ben H, liro R-J (who has a e220) and me, tried
the kernel at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.31.5/?
Apart from the first time you insert the e169, both modem and usb
storage seem to work flawlessly. (I'm using it now.)
I also have the current ubuntu kernel
Regardless, we seem to have a fix and Karmic's been released. Is there
someway we can get this fix pushed to the package?

As expected, the final release kernel for Karmic is 2.6.31-14.48, so no
Huawei modem connections for new or existing users (unless they find
this bug report and can figure out what to do). A pretty poor outcome,
given Ben's patch has been 'committed' for two weeks.

Wondering if this is something to do with the recent change to NVidia
drivers. Full screen replay in BBC iPlayer is now really jerky, even
though normal view is fine. Strange

This problems was entirely preventable because the fix was known two
weeks before karmic's release.
However, I'm wondering from comments above (post #129) that the
kernel.org version 2.6.31.5 does not work with some modems, if the
problem is wider than Ubuntu and affects other distros as well.

It might be worth noting that if I connect the keyboard to a USB hub
then suspend / resume works fine. For me, the USB hub is built in to the
ACD30 monitor.

So you can now change the background that's used on the command-line.
We will not be supporting using the user's desktop background in Karmic
(or probably ever) because it will involve making connections to gconf
and reading keys out of it, and we're trying to minimize this type of
thing in order t
Uhh, also forgot to mention.. the transition should be smoother now
since xsplash now works to avoid 'flickering' between the splash screen
and the desktop background by using some XComposite related hacks.

Well, we can use a different image for the different xsplash stages if
we want to. For example, look at
/etc/gdm/Init/Default (before gdm greeter shows)
and
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default (after gdm greeter, going into user
session)
