At Manoj's request I have tested this on the .32-rc3 mainline kernel.
With this kernel the internal microphone works perfectly, provided the
"Analog Line-In / Microphone 2" connector is chosen in the sound
preferences dialogue.

I am seeing this as well on the ubuntu-alternate image. It happens when
choosing "Require my password to log in and unencrypt my home

Tested on 20100112.1 amd64 mythbuntu image.
When booted into the live environment, activating the desktop icon to
start the live frontend has no effect. When run from the terminal, the
following output is received:

This works on a clean install of the 20091019 image with the
2.6.31-14-generic kernel after installing the linux-backports-modules-
alsa-2.6.31-14-generic package. (The internal mic does not work on a
clean install before installing the backported alsa modules.)

When I switch the primary sound device to a USB headset connected to my
laptop, mouse click events no longer work except in the Sound Settings
window. This does not seem to occur when the device is connected, only
when it is made the default audio device.

Just to add, the device does have a set of buttons as well, so it might
be some sort of USB HID conflict? Only two of them show anything when
run under xev, XF86VolumeUp and XF86VolumeDown.
