It is actually much much better to fix the package, I agree : I'm actually
unable to install hardy because of this conflict (well, I'm going to try not to

Hi tried disabling EDID : same thing...
using the nvidia .run installed driver (I removed the nvidia-glx-new and
restricted drivers) : I copied the EDID I got from the NV driver into a binary
file, and used it in the nvidia driver using option CustomEDID - this time, it

Mmmh... I finally decided to start m$ OS : it's also reporting a 7600GS card.
The only place I can see it's a 7300GT card is at boot, where the graphic card
bios loads.
I finally may indeed have this kind of card - 7600GS seems anyway
similar to to 7300GT, so I guess this is probably not a linux/

Mmmhhh... good question ;)
I had downloaded latest nvidia installer, but it seems to me I did only use the
edgy packages : appart from my latest tries on feisty, I don't remember seeing
this nice nvidia installer before...
Could I have messed up the feisy fawn from edgy ?

I tried the livecd :
- using restricted manager, it installed nvidia-glx --> blank screen --> blind
reboot
- by hand, I installed nvidia-glx-new ran nvidia-xconfig --> blank screen -->
blind reboot
... Herrr ??? I'm doomed ;)

there could be a problem with the consoles and the nvidia driver.

I just hit this bug with konqueror under an up-to-date feisty box : I
tried to connect to an OVH ftp using just the ftp://ftp.hostname.net :
it asked for a username/pass , then asked again, and then "failed to
dwitch to the directory". It also said "please fill in a bug" ;)

Then kill update notifier, restart it... and icon magically appears

to upgrade, otherwise the notifier will apparently never attempt to update
anything...

Well, I don't know what's really correct or not, but when I have updates ready,
I have this little green icon popping up (now).
And when this is the case, I can see in the processes list :
/usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kpackagekitsmarticon
If I do remove a repository (I used ppa), then icon disappears,
I also suffer from this I do not even notice anything, I see no pop up :
that's really as if there was no more notification !
Also, killing the update-notifier-kde process and then launching it from
command line does not help and does not show anything in the task bar...
