I don't exactly see this as a duplicate. From what I understand that bug
says gstreamer doesn't even support youtube. I can play the videos fine,
but the bar for seeking is greyed out. It doesn't stop playback
It turns out I just need to reinstall the base package and emerald due
to a conflict in versions from installing via source code :)

emerald themes from one of the opendesktop.org sites, like gnome-

Sorry for the late reply as I had a busy week. I had a gstreamer update
tonight but I'm not able to test yet (have to sleep), so I will test it
again later and see how it goes. I believe it might be Pulseaudio related
in VLC's case for sure. It seems to also occur with Firefox when playing
youtube

I have noticed as well that the dconf entry for the Unity form factor is
missing. This could be related to it. Is this a known issue or a planned
