On systems that use LDAP one cannot launch gdmsetup (neither as root,
nor using gksudo as any other administrative user).
Commenting out the ldap host or ldap uri in /etc/ldap.conf solves the
problem.

I actually can make my own browser. Or my own operating system. But
that's besides the point. I use Ubuntu because of the freedom. You
apparently use it for other reasons, and that's ok, but I really value
those freedoms.

It is certainly possible to have a free service. Look at the Affero
General Public License. That deals with services. You could say that
those are free services.
The problem is that "free service" is not very much defined. What makes
something a free service? Apparently, the AGPL does. But is that
ware.
With free software on your own computer you can generate some valuable
data, but you don't have to distribute that data if you want to
distribute the free software.

I suggest shipping Epiphany instead of Firefox. Epiphany has better
integration with Ubuntu anyway. Firefox/abrowser/Iceweasel are for
power-users. Most people only need to type addresses and create
bookmarks. Epiphany is adequate for those people.

more when playing GPU-accelerated video. I see no "Oops" or "Aiee" in

aesthetics, so not necessarily a bug. The title bar having only 1px

I have the same problem with a BCM4306 chipset. The wireless cards wants
to initiate a session but dmesg says that it doesn't receive any message
back.

Just to add to this, I upgraded from ubuntu 4.10 all the way to 6.10. I
noticed the problem first when my machine (VAIO laptop with 1 gig of
ram) got irresponsive. Then I noticed I had no swap space.
I did try hibernate and suspend before, hibernate never worked, suspend
might have once.

I have configured a custom alternative for gdm3.css.

My Gnome theme is Awaita-dark, but I don’t see how this is related.

May as well join the fun. Believed I tried every suggested work around
above, still got crackling.
In my case the crackling is present on the line-in 3.5mm jack plug and
not a microphone.

server problem which causes the dump at the client side.
So the message is being given if the repository can not be reached.
(Same thing will happen if you try to checkout from a server which does
