xsane does not work so it looks like sane backend problem, but does this

Well, the scanner works fine using 10.04.i386
I now think that it is not sane backend problems, these are well tested, it
must be a kernel/module problem.
I gave the scan1.log, and Michael Nagel has pointed out the important line;
there are also things in the kernel.log files,
but Ubuntu may have
I have downloaded the latest version of the kernel today, same version
number, don't know what has changed, but the scanner is now working.
