For kicks I tried a launcher icon which starts an "xterm".
Then I tried the resizing operation - with no ill effects. It would work as
expected.
So maybe it's related to gnome terminal...

I found a machine without "unattended-upgrades", performed the PAM
upgrade manually and alas, cron et.al. were not being restarted. So
maybe it's an error in the packages themselves!!!

Then I suspended the machine, waited a few seconds and woke it up again.
After that, bluetooth wouldn't work at all.
I'm attaching two log files, hci.log (before suspend up to suspend)

new hci.log after suspend (supend quits the logging!). Oh, it's empty. I
cannot upload an empty file :)

Machine became unreachble via ssh. Logging in via the console switch we saw
task jbd2/cciss!c0d0:258 blocked for more than 120 seconds
The machine was completely unresponsive, all I could do was scroll up
and down. ctrl-alt-del wouldn't work.

I can tell you that the error does NOT occur with a 64bit Ubuntu!
(we reinstalled a 64bit lucid from scratch and transferred the config: the
error was gone!)
The problematic 32bit machine is a vmware virtual machine.
