This problem affects me as well. I am running Ubuntu 12.04, with kernel 3.2.0-29-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 27 17:03:23 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux on an Acer 5750G with an i5-2410M processor with 2.3 GHz and Nvidia Optimus with Nvidia GeForce GT 540M. Until grub loads, fan runs on
