This way of sorting is really a pain !
For people just buing single mp3s from common download locations the actual
"browse by artist" works allright,
though even in this case you want to get rid of the various "featuring this guy
or that guy"-stuff as appendix to the artist you want to look
The fix is very simple:
Banshee just has to list artists NOT by the "artist" tag, but by the
"albumartist" tag.
That's exactly why this tag exists... alternativly "albumartistsort" gives the
list as the sorted list as used by librarians - both easy to use, easy to
implement

That's really bad. There should be a simple config file to adjust which
tag is used for each view.
But, well, the tag "albumartistsort" for the album and "artistsort" for
the single track artist exactly do what you and the librarian are
worried about - listing "Mike Oldfield" as "Oldfield, Mike" a
There is a setting in gconf to delay autohide.
But it cannot be set to more than 10 seconds. It should be a very little
and minor change to allow this to be set to "infinite" ... The fact that
no one at the unity team implements this very simple solution is more
than annoying.

I don't know ANY linux player using the albumartist tag "correctly" or

Hi Leonardo!
I am glad that you find the design decision useful. many words to

It's been 5 years now with this bug with no intent to change it by the
