Can anyone with real hardware try this kernel?
There is some indication that the Virtual PC problems are due to another
bug. The upstream patches in my test-kernel are definately reported to
fix the SiS chipset problems on real-hardware.

We can close this bug because unfortunately this is expected behaviour,
and it isn't a bug in the kernel or installer.
The changes between /dev/hdxx and /dev/sdxx is because the kernel is
moving over to libata support for PATA and SATA devices, rather than
using the original older IDE infrastruct

There is currently a kernel for i386, a x86_64 kernel will be available

Automounting was broken by an update to the mmc-core, which didn't work
correctly with hald. This has been fixed in the latest kernels.

Quite. Unfortunately the reversion to using the piix driver for
selected PCI IDs missed Parallels. This will have to fixed in a later
SRU.

In above Dmesg generated using Parallels build 1970, ata_piix driver is
correctly recognising and configuring emulated DVD/CDROM drive.
Using Parallels build 3186, ata_piix driver is not recognising the
emulated DVD/CDROM drive, and it is instead erroring as shown in the

Yes, lsmod before the hang should be okay.
Also have you observed any pattern to the hangs? Does it always occur
at roughly the same time after booting? Are you doing a lot of network
I/O just before or whilst the hang takes place? Any information along
those lines would be helpful.

Can you give the full dmesg output, including the lines before the oops?
Also, can you run strace on wvdialconf, and attach the output, i.e.
strace -fo strace.out wvdailconf
the output will be in the file strace.out.

Can you give the output from lsmod for your 2.6.18-grml kernel?
Can you also boot the "live cd", and at the (initramfs) prompt type:
