Well the thing is after a few more upgrades, I couldn't start compiz at
all, but then i read a post at ubuntuforums where a user had the same
problem, he made a new "clean" user and with that he could get compiz
running, this works for me on my x60s (intel card), but on two other
laptops I've tried
This is mostly the same as I have experienced (and still do) on a
Thinkpad x60s.
It all started after a "aptitude upgrade" sometime sunday (GMT+1) two
weeks ago, and also after I (for other reasons) did a full reinstall
with Gutsy (tribe5) yesterday.

I get the same on "aptitude upgrade", I have to press Enter for the
process to continue from "Error in select()".

After a bit more testing it appears that this might be a problem with
Emerald, and not Compiz, because I've used Compiz with Metacity and had
no more problems since yesterday

After upgrading Ubuntu to 12.04 it tried to upgrade mysql-server-5.1 to
mysql-server-5.5 this upgrade broke. I didn't really have an y needed
databases, so I purged all mysql-server related packages. After this I'm
still unable to get mysql-server-5.5 installed.
