it was very specific in the -24 patchlevel, it was not present in the
-23 and dissappeared in the -25 and has never returned
I guess this can be closed and filed under 'Job well done'

In this case it is the CAS server which instructs firefox not to store
the password. This is common practice for security sensitive sites and
CAS as a Single Sign On server does this. The idea behind it is that
then your data is safe even when someone uses your PC.
