I tried openSUSE 11.1 RC1 today with Linux kernel 2.6.27.7 and it boots
fine. Still, no luck with Ubuntu, Mandriva or Fedora. Not sure what is
different with openSUSE. How would I figure this out?

Maybe I don't understand the Importance rating but I'm very confused by
this being marked 'Medium'. I would suspect a whole lot of HP users
will be coming to Ubuntu or upgrading to 8.10 to find that they can not
use it do to an unresolved regression. Has there been anything upstream
about this?

confusion initially.

I don't know the difference between 'noalpic' or 'nosmp' but I can boot
the livecd when I add 'nosmp' to the boot options. Not sure if it will
boot after install though. Have not installed Intrepid.

Is there any status on this issue? I still am unable to boot the
Intrepid live cd's and was able to boot and install Hardy without a
problem on the same laptop. FYI, I am also unable to boot Fedora 10
Alphas and the just released Mandriva 2009 Beta. Is it possible that

Just an update, I downloaded the Daily Build with Linux 2.6.28.6-6 and
the live cd booted directly to a desktop with no hangs. I will install
tonight and see if the installed image boots properly.

Alpha 4 still fails on my HP DV6910US as do the daily builds as of
2/18/09.
One thing weird that I noticed a couple of daily builds back...when I
first try the live cd it will boot directly to a desktop. If I reboot
and try the live cd again, it will not work anymore...I have to hold a
key. I am

daily build. The Linux Kernel Bug is marked Regression but I have seen
no activity there. Very disappointing but in Ubuntu's defense, all
distributions are effected by it. Too bad for us HP owners I guess.

is not visible unless I click where it should be. Then it appears.

Radeon Mobility 9200, Dell Latitude D600 laptop. Worked fine out of the
