My fix no longer works on Jaunty, sadly. Even with my fix (above), the
external mouse is frozen on resume. Re-enabling the frozen external
mouse amounts to just unplugging and re-plugging it.

Fixed by creating /etc/pm/config.d/usb_suspend_workaround with the
contents:

I also installed the 9.2 driver on a T42 with the Mobility 9600 M10. The
system is stable, the driver's recognized by jockey-kde, and GL
performance is very much improved. I'm using UT2004 to stress-test the
driver, and all seems to be well.

I've tried to grab as much state as I could. Attached is the fstab from
anacoluthon, a T42 Thinkpad that suffers from this problem.
When booting, I choose the normal (i.e., non-recovery) GRUB entry, since

Here's the quickest way I've found (this requires that you've set a root
password):
* Edit the normal (non-recovery) grub entry, removing "quiet",
"splash",and "vt_handoff". Optionally add "--verbose".
* Press Ctrl-X and let the system run through the boot process until it
hangs.
* Hit SysRq-i,
