I was able to resolve this by forcing overwrite when installing the two
packages (note the order does matter). Given the destructive possibility
of this command, I took a backup of the VM prior to proceeding.
$ sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite
/var/cache/apt/archives/libpython3.12-stdlib_3.12.
