I don't really know what happened, I was just switching to the window of
a Java application, and then there was this message that the kernel
2.6.28 had crashed. Afterwards Java crashed as well, but then, nothing
more happened and I could continue work on my machine.
ProblemTy
I don't agree with demoting this to "low" importance. It's surely not of
"high" importance but is a serious usability bug. Also, it should be an
easy to fix bug, and is obviously 100% reproduceable, so I propose
"Medium".

Problem has been solved by adding to the following settings into the
[global] section of samba's configuration file /etc/samba/smb.conf:
unix charset = UTF-8
display charset = UTF-8
dos charset = 1255
I hope it helps other people. For Windows users, I have absolutely no
idea.

Hmmm... looks like it works, but it takes about 5-10 minutes to launch.
I have a fairly recent laptop (AMD Turion64 X2) so it's not a
performance problem. Anyway, ekiga shouldn't take that long to launch,
right?

Hi, thanks for helping me out. Killing evolution-data-server did not
help. I tried to test ekiga from the Desktop CD and it worked perfectly!
So I decided to reinstall Gutsy and now everything seems to be ok. I
wonder what caused this disorder. I don't understand why it happened as

Same problem occurs in Feisty Final with a fresh install. When shutting
down from GDM, usplash appears correctly. When shutting down from xfce,
usplash appears only 1 second before the PC powers off. No hangs,
nothing, just not as pretty as it should be. Hope somebody has an idea,

A bit more of relevant information: As stated, the keyboard works for
entering a password during login, but then quits working after login.
However, if I execute Switch User, the keyboard again works for entering
a password, and continues to work after login.

Testing with two upstream kernels, 3.2-rc7-generic and 3.2-rc7-generic-
pae, was carried out. Neither of these kernels solved the problem.

Adding confirmation that this is affecting me as well. Commenting to get
updates and to report that uninstalling light-locker seems to have
worked for me. I also updated to 20.04 from 18.04.
