Right, chromium now always stores its saved passwords in a sqlite database in
the profile directory, but if available it uses the system's keyring to store
the key used to encrypt the contents of that database.
Please run the following command:

Whatsapp is doing user-agent detection, and blocking a valid browser for
no good reason. This is not a chromium bug. I suggest reporting this
issue to the whatsapp web team, and as a workaround you can use an
extension that impersonates a different browser, like this one:

It sounds like this might be a symptom of bug #1616650 (although the
claim that history isn't affected would go against this hypothesis).
Could you try enabling the experimental refresh-app-awareness flag,
restart chromium, use it for a few days and comment back here whether
the problem persists?
Not an upstream bug after all. I downloaded the latest release build,
unpacked it in a clean VM and observed that the icon for DDG in the new
tab page is reasonably high resolution, unlike the one in the Ubuntu
builds.

problem that I recently fixed in the firefox packages, so I'll replicate
the fix for thunderbird.
