I can add more information, which might allow others to duplicate the
crash. I had a .desktop file in ~/Desktop (left over from some third
party software installation) which was created by root and which I had
permission neither to read nor write. Removing the file or changing the
permissions stopp

bit gutsy. It's not just firefox, I've also reproduced the problem using
epiphany. It's somewhat annoying. I couldn't see anything of interest in

I can also report that it's still not working with 11. One thing I did
notice is that amixer is not trying to configure my Realtek ALC861 but
"Generic 11c1 Si3054", which I think (I could well be mistaken) is my
modem. I don't know anything about sound in linux, so apologies if
that's normal.
