hwclock.sh is called before the modules in /etc/modules are loaded.

Installing from jaunty 20090112 alternate left me with an empty (zero
length) /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. I copied the
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and rebooted.
This gave me a usable screen with a grainy look and some strange color
artifacts.

partitioning step because it cannot find the driver for the IDE

There is an improvement with the 20090321 daily-live cdrom. It boots
into a lowres black X screen with the message:

Kernel 2.6.17-2-powerpc (from Edgy) does not boot on my OldWorld
Powermac (G3, beige) using BootX. The boot process stops at the point
where BootX normally switch to the kernel, the problem lies in the very
beginning of the kernel boot
Another observation: The kernel boots when started without initrd - at
least until it panics because it cannot find the root filesystem driver
(ext3). I've tried raising ramdisk_size to 16384 and 32768 without any
luck.

2.6.15-25 is in the Dapper repository - 2.6.17 is in the Edgy
repository.
I think the boot problem is a new issue. I've reported it in bug #50746.
The patch was taken from the 2.6.16 tree and should be in 2.6.17 as

I close this bug again since this boot problem and the one in 2.6.17 are
two different issues. In 2.6.15 (Dapper) the kernel didn't boot with
BootX - period. That was fixed in 2.6.15-23-powerpc.
The 2.6.17 (Edgy) kernel boots fine when no initial ramdisk (initrd.img)
is choosen in BootX. It obviou

The Edgy RC Desktop CD works for me. The bmac module is loaded at boot
time.

I also get this annoying message during shutdown with no RAID defined:

The attached patch fix this (use log_notice - not log_problem - to tell
that no RAID subsystem is loaded, hence nothing to shut down).

I've hit this bug with Edgy release (2.6.17-10-generic kernel) on a
Toshiba Satellite Pro 460CDT laptop and an Apacer Handy Steno USB
pendrive. Reading from the drive hangs after a while. Nothing in dmesg.
The drive works on my desktop running Dapper and also worked on the
laptop running Slackwar
It is a bug in the linux kernel code fixed in 2.6.19-rc1.

The workaround mentioned in this thread (break=top + modprobe piix)
fixed the xfermode error problems described in bug #96826 for me on a
Dell OptiPlex GX100 system. The two problems seems to be connected.
