I attempted to play around with it today and attempted to remove and
install pulseaudio from the latest source with no success.
Here's the basic results.
it required the following packages to be added.
m4
intltool
sndfile-programs
libsndfile1-dev
libspeexdsp-dev
./configure, make and installed

There's a thread in the Ubuntu forum about this bug. The latest post has
a few ideas to try. I haven't had a chance to play with them yet, but I
will give it a go tomorrow.

Karmic 5.1 sound choppy, stereo works fine.

Just a thought, I wonder if this is something new with the latest build
of Karmic, as I haven't found any previous mention of it. If so, I'd be
curious to see what changes have been made to see if it is possible to
revert some of it.
