It seems to have gotten worse. Before, the iwconfig command would
always bring up the network again. Now, it does it for about the first
time and then won't work. The ap claims "Invalid," and I have to
ifdown/ifup. After that, I have to set the rate to 11M, the ap to auto,
and then "iwlist scan

When I try to save a file in Firefox, a dialog comes up. There is an option
to "Browse for other folders." Clicking on this drops down a browsing area.
It flashes to a normal size but shrinks immediately to showing about two
files/folders in the selected directory.

Thanks for the update. I did have a .comments directory and upon removing it,
gthumb worked again.
I didn't add any comments to the photos that I know of. Is it possible they
already had comments that gthumb put there?

I still think this is a valid bug... when one or more repositories
cannot be updated, it freezes the "last updated" time, which is
misleading.
