As my comments before, I couldn't get the log as the bug happens during shut down. If someone please tell me how to display/collect kernel output during shutdown, I will provide a log for further investigation. And I have no way to know what package is involved until a log is collected. Re brad-f

My bad, the hang happens regardless if the HDMI cable is plugged in or not. However it only happens when a "sudo halt" is issued, not when the machine is shutdown from the menu. Tested on three kernels: 1) linux-image-3.5.0-030500rc5-generic + linux-image-extra (latest upstream kernel) 2) Ubunt
