I have the same problem here with a Feisty-machine with auto-mounted CIFS
filesystem.
The reason for this seems to be that dbus, which controls NetworkManager is
shut down at /etc/rc0.d/K20dbus which is run before /etc/rc0.d/S31umountnfs.sh

My method is the one recommended by the evdev documentation, and it
breaks. That's what this bug report is about. Viewing it as a
documentation bug might be ok, but is *not* a valid reason for

I just tested the Kubuntu Feisty Herd3 cd (amd64) on my M1210 and there were no
lock-ups, I used no extra kernel boot parameters. However when i closed the lid
and reopened it the screen wouldn't turn back on, so i pressed ctrl-alt-f1 to
get a console and pressed ctrl-alt-del to reboot.

I have seen the same problem a couple of times on my laptop, but it was
the binary-blob daemon that had been killed, if you experience the
problem again, you could try "sudo /sbin/ipw3945d-`uname -r`" in a

I have tried to use smart instead of aptitude for some time.
I have a script that does "smart update; smart upgrade" that I run
