Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22
Details in this alsa bug:
https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=3331
in short, this problem that once existed in may 2006 or so, has now come
back!
** Affects: alsa-driver
Importance: Unknown
Status: U
Public bug reported:
Please re-enable build of the s2ram-binary, it has some configuration
options that are missing with the "/etc/acpi/sleep.sh"-way of
suspending, primarily the VBE Mode option instead of VBE Save, which is
the only way I've ever been able to resume my laptop from suspend-to-
ram
The latest ALSA driver does fix the issue (compiled from their
repository). It's a question of whether this will be included in the
Gutsy kernel.

Me too.
FYI - if you absolutely *must* install any programs (like if you're not
able to boot), you can still do so manually by doing
sudo dpkg -i [something].deb
The debs are cached in /var/cache/apt/archives/
also, it's a good idea to do
sudo dpkg --configure -a
after such a crash.

Well, we have 100.14.11 already, so it's not *that* bad.

I've experienced the exact same issue, but on my Dell XPS M1210 laptop with a

I just tested Ubuntu Tribe 5 on my laptop with a X700 ati card.
After splash its just a black screen, and I can't get console (ctrl-
alt-f1 does not seem to do anything).
I'm going to see if I can get a console and install the ati package you
linked, Bryce.
