I've 10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf in /etc/fonts/conf.d so I expect subpixel
rendering to be enabled by default in any application that uses
freetype/fontconfig. (Additionally I've enabled subpixel rendering in
the Gnome preferences).

it did not fix the problem for me.
For the people searching for a workaround, what I did is to put the
following into the file /etc/gdm/Init/Default near the top (just below
"OLD_IFS=$IFS":

Unmounting via gnome-mount --unmount -d /dev/hda works just as well.
I never had problems unmounting the DVD. I ran the following: "while
true; do date; lsof /media/name; sleep 1; done" and while reproducing
the problem it did not report anything.

Actually, sourcing bash_completion twice is fine, since we only try to
set it if it's empty and we only mark it read-only after we've set it to
something.

I barely ever use the touchpad on my laptop. The point now is this:
In Ubuntu, it happens within minutes after booting that the cursor

I'm not sure what's happening here. I assume the transition of the
bash_completion script from the bash package (gutsy) to the separate
bash-completion package (hardy) was not done correctly.
I'm not a specialist for debian packaging, so I can't really help here.
What I think is going on is that
After testing with a virtualbox image, I can confirm that the problem is
indeed that bash does not remove its version of the bash_completion
script on upgrade to the newer version which does not include it
anymore, even if it was not changed by the user.
If the file is unchanged it should be remov

I have a smilar problem on a Santa Rosa laptop with Intel X3100
graphics. GDM takes ages to load. And there were warnings concening
MTRRs...
I think this is a serious bug, since upgrades to 4GB will become much
more common now...

I have the same problem. For me it happened when I upgraded my RAM from
1GB to 4GB. First I thought it might be a problem with MTRRs, but it
seems only gdm is making problems.
KDM works fine and if I start gnome-sesion via $HOME/.xsession, this
works too...

The original complaint about '$ completing environment variables is
valid IMO. The bash-completion package does the right thing here and
completes to: '$#!~'. The builtin completion tries to complete

The way it is supposed to work is as follows:
In /etc/skel/.bashrc we have the following:

This was added in version: 3.1-3 in March 2006. So this was active since
edgy at least. And it is still present on my hardy installation.

If you uncomment the lines in /etc/bash.bashrc the *every* user on the
system will have bash_completion enabled. This is bad because there is
no easy way to disable it again. So the solution is to activate it in

Binary package hint: gnome-do
I'm using version 0.4.0.1-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu hardy.
Sometimes the gnome-do window will pop up in unexpected places instead
of in the center of the screen. Even more annoyingly the drop-down list
will always pop up in the "right" location in the

The new human-murrine theme in hardy is fantastic. However the human-
icon-theme has many problems and the brown/orange thing is also not to
everyones tastes...
A blue version of this theme would be even more fantastic!

OK, that's good.
What I did however, was to just change the icon theme, not the complete
theme. Could you try this too?

This is a first shot at a conversion. Basically I just changed the hue
of all non-grey/white/black colors to something blue. But it is far from
perfect. But since I'm not a designer, someone else should continue with
it...
To use, put the file in ~/.themes/Blubuntu-Murrine-beta/gtk-2.0/

OK, I just rechecked and the issue is this:
After the icon theme change, the first time you invoke gnome-do, it will
still show the old icon. After you start typing, or if you close it and
open it again, it will show the correct icons.
So you can only reproduce this bug if the icon that gnome-do
Oh, and I'm not using Compiz normally, but I can also reproduce the
behavior when running Compiz.

There is nothing bash can do about this. It does not even know what the
background color is.
gnome-terminal sets the background color and it also sets all the other
colors.
So, the original complaint is that the default colors of gnome-terminal
provide suboptimal contrast to the default backgroun
I cannot even reproduce the issue with the version in bzr :)

The main problem with the readonly variables has already been fixed in
hardy.
The issue with -v is a bit more tricky. I think the idea was that if you
set -v to debug your startup script, you're probably not interested in
thousands of lines of output from
