Hmm... I tried to build 0.99.8 using the files you linked to, but
libgpod-dev 0.4 isn't in edgy (it's only up to 0.3.2-1 there).
As I said, 0.99.4 handles _some_ mp4 video files, but not all, so there
is some support, but it does seem to be buggy.

poor visual quality is that xv isn't being used). I have an ATI 7500 in
a T30 using the opensource drivers. The same videos worked fine in Edgy
yesterday before I upgraded to feisty. The videos I've got are, for
example, AVIs

I just upgraded my g4-based mac mini from dapper to edgy, and I can no
longer run gtk apps over ssh tunnels because they always crash. I can
run non-gtk apps, such as xterm just fine. Here's the output of running
gdb gnome-terminal until it crashed:

By the way, this crash happens only between my i386 machines and my
powerpc machine. Remote X works fine between the i386 machines, it's
just when I attempt to run a remote X app on my i386 box from the ppc
box or vice versa, so I'm guessing there's some endian issue going on.

More data: I have 4 machines running the very latest edgy:
firestorm: AthlonXP desktop with NVidia binary driver running compiz. 24 bit
display depth
phoenix: P4 Mobile laptop with opensource ATI drivers on a radeon 7500 running
metacity, 16 bit display depth
firefighter: P4 HT desktop running nv
And apps from a dapper/i386 Xclient work fine on the edgy/ppc Xserver.
And I'm quite sure that I was using dapper/ppc apps on edgy/i386
Xservers before upgrading.

What's more, after checking on my compiz-enabled box, the screen no
longer fades out on logout under xserver-xgl. So for my two machines,
the patch reduces functionality where it didn't need to (nvidia-glx
+xserver-xgl+compiz) and doesn't work where it needed to (opensource-

I noticed that the new kernel in Lucid ( 2.6.32-20.29 ) now has the

No fix on the Thinkpad T22. I'm also confused about how this new kernel
would have fixed this. Here's the changlog:

I just ran a "sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-firmware" and re-ran the
upgrade.
