After a recent upgrade of the fontconfig packages on Jaunty, subpixel
rendering (and traditional grayscale antialiasing) is/are disabled in
some fonts on Firefox and Konqueror (and possibly other browsers too, I
have not checked). These fonts

the problem, and they are using Helvetica.

Yes, it did. On my system, it seemed to break a few fonts in both
Firefox 3.1 and Konqueror.

The new Usplash theme for Kubuntu has a progress bar which fades out
from light blue to darker blue as it reaches the end of the bar. This,
combined with the dark blue background of the bar, results in the
progress indicator not
I can confirm this. The lack of a "Details" console is a pretty serious
regression (IMHO), at least to people like me who like to watch the
output as packages are installed.
