I think the issue here is that the guided lvm install always creates a
vg named ubuntu-vg -- even if there is already a vg with that name on
other disks. Installing over the top of the disk that has the ubuntu-vg
vg on it *ought* to work but I wouldn't be that surprised if it didn't.

just uploaded it to the PPA for older releases. So the update to 1.50

information is running, but does not have its stdout connected to the
right place so the output is going nowhere. Easy fix fortunately (easier

Are you enabling encryption in the guided screen? This sort of bug means
we are mis-estimating how large the VG is going to be and we've had a
few bugs like this in the past but I thought they were mostly fixed. The
.crash file from /var/crash would be great help in figuring out what is
going on.
Ah so the unrelated reasons would be that glibc snapshot I have in that
PPA -- clisp with PIE disabled for s390x and ppc64el built fine in a
different PPA and then xindy built with the resulting clisp too so I'll

the ISO is put together hasn't changed since the hirsute release, so
this is probably related to a change in grub2 or shim. The bug was

I think there is no doubt that Matthias's disks are bad and the default
behaviour is OK, but I would hope that disabling multipath via the
kernel would allow an installation as desired. But it seems curtin
doesn't quite work this way. Part of the issue IIRC is that the curtin
multipath support does
I'm going to mark this incomplete, as far as I can tell the installer
restarts on the serial line just fine but I'm certainly interested to
hear if you can reproduce the problem or find the logs!

This is by design. There's not much point in using LVM if you then
completely fill up the volume group with a single logical volume -- you
can't take snapshots, for example -- and expanding a LV later is much
easier than shrinking one.
