I'd like to add: I was using FF3.5 even before upgrading to 9.10. After
the upgrade - and I see this on two systems - the AdBlocker add-on does
not seem to work any more, or at least not fully, I now see lots of ads
where there should not be any, even though the add-on is enabled and
there are no e

EDIT (my last comment): The settings suggested by nigo045 solve the
slow-DNS-response issue - great!
However, my Adblock Plus add-on still does not work, and that is very
unlikely to be a problem of that add-

EDIT-2: Hmm, my other machine (i.e. my other Ubuntu-inside-VMware
system) does not have the issue with the add-on. Very peculiar. Maybe it
IS my own problem, although it just worked an hour ago...

@jorden.sc: I had already done this manually in menu.lst, I now also tried the
above - but even though I let update-grub even generate a new menu.lst, the
ipv6 param is missing
I had to add it manually again.
Also, disabling ipv6 this way does solve my firefox DNS problem (I
reenabled ipv6
It is not a wireless-related issue, a least not for me: I
(unfortunately) upgraded two VMware Linux systems.

The deprecated character-set setting mentioned above did it for me: I
had to change default-character-set=utf8 to character-set-server=utf8

Addendum:
It helps to run
sudo mysqld
to see what the mysql-daemon has to complain about on your particular
system - the messages one sees in apt-get don't help in these cases. The
mysql log files had no contents either.
