Setting up Software Raid with the feisty herd1 installer fails. I tried
setting it up from scratch, created partitions on each disk, started the
software raid setup, set the 2 partitions as members in a raid1. After
creating the md0 the install
Why is there a fglrx kernel module in the linux-restricted-
modules-2.6.17-10-generic package? And how can I build the restricted
modules package myself for my own kernel?
The kernel-source-fglrx is not used to build the standard ubuntu kernel,
so I suppose this package is pretty uninteresting to

There is a bug which is very annoying and renders the fglrx kernel
source package useless:

I've successfully create the kernel_image and kernel_headers for a macpro
custom kernel 2.6.19.1
The only thing that is missing is fglrx.

Above is for amd64.
But fglrx won't build on i386 either, see below. Why?
As I understand 2.6.20-3-generic ships also
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-3-generic which contains fglrx, but won't work
on the macpro.

This could be a problem with your initrd. Are you seeing /dev/mapper
devices within your initramfs? Maybe initramfs-tools just forgot to
include lvm support in your initrd?

The problem is in fact with initramfs-tools, but you can work around
this problem by using yaird to generate your initrd. Had this problem
quite often lately and searched for an alternative. yaird is a quite
good one (at least for me ; and I',m using raid + lvm ; bootloader is
lilo).
