I have very similar problem. However my machine seems to hang completely at
some point. I have to hassle the computer with pressing some keyboard buttons
to make it show the login screen.

I tested my laptop with intrepid livedc for 32 and 64bit versions and the
results are the same. Booting the kernel stops at some point (usually after
something about SCSI subsystem or usb stuff) and I have to press keyboard
buttons to eventually get to the gdm.

I have the same problem. I tried both amd64 and i386 versions of gutsy
and used bcm43xx-fwcutter (through restricted-manager) to get the
firmware. My computer is HP notebook (dv6510ew). In fwcutter I used the

In my case the restricted-manager found that I have legacy card
(GeForce2 GTS), it showed "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (legacy
cards)", but nevertheless when I clicked "Enable" it installed the
nvidia-glx package instead of nvidia-glx-legacy. Then it completely
messed up the xorg.conf file
Nvidia is probably going to support 96xx line same way ax 71xx. If they weren't
going to support it they would probably write 9631, not 96xx. It wouldn't be
wise to support people with very old cards and left the ones with much newer
hardware.

I can confirm that bug. In my case it occurs both on GUI installer and
on text-mode installer. On GUI I have exactly the same error message.

terminus font for my terminal, but after restarting, some different ugly
font was showing up instead of Terminus on both computers.

It turns out, that update came from GNOME3 ppa. Package got updated to
