"Fixed" in 2.6.31-5!
The switch now defaults to off on every boot.
I guess it would be the best if it can somehow "remember" the state
across reboots, but I'm not sure if that's possible, and for me, default
to on is good :).

Have you also tried whatever Windows uses? I thought Linux used to
always send the same OSI as Windows, for compatibility reasons (some
manufacturers "pessimized" for Linux?). I'm far from sure, though, just
recalled reading something like that somewhere a long time ago.

Nothing" option for "When laptop lid is closed". This is very

For my laptop (Acer Timeline 3810t), after upgrading to 2.6.31, the
RFKILL switch now defaults to on (wireless disabled) on every boot. It
works if I manually turn off the switch.
The switch is a toggle switch, and it used to default to off under
2.6.30/alpha 2.

Are you sure hibernation (suspend to disk, takes about 30 seconds or
more) doesn't work?
It works out of the box for me and many other people (3810t). Suspend to
RAM doesn't work.
If hibernation doesn't work
I think we may have to wait for Acer to release a new BIOS. Afterall, on
the 4810t, it was reportedly solved by a BIOS update.

I thought the backport version should be newer ("backported" to this
release, although I don't know from where). If that's the case, you are

It's a machine-specific problem. As far as my research goes, no other
machine on the planet has this same problem. Some have problem
suspending, some have problem waking up (freeze), but no machine would
shutdown instead.
