1. What game(s) are you playing?
2. What colors are you referring to? Colors in certain windows, background
colors, colors of game objects, etc.? Perhaps you could attach a screen shot to
illustrate the issue?

What version of update-motd are you using? I looked at the source
package, as well as the cron.d entry placed when I installed the current
version (1.8) of the package. It looks as follows:
