Following the thread reported by Xavier, it may have something to do
with the way Eclipse is packaged. It has been reported upstream by
Debian users.

Matthias,
Thanks for the info!

optional. I know that the running JVM is configurable but you have to look
for it. I guess that most people upon f
I noticed this behavior also. Actually, the item in the taskbar stops
flashing after text has been typed in the message input field. This is
very annoying.

I didn't know it was configurable actually...
The option "Remove when conversation window gains focus" was unchecked. I
checked it and it worked as expected: it stopped blinking when the window came
in focus.

Hi John,
I noticed the super-slowness also when I started using Eclipse on Ubuntu
(had used it for the past 4 years or so on Windows XP and it has always
run smoothly). Did you try running it with another JVM such as Sun's? It
was ridiculously slow for me too (it took 1-2 seconds minimum to respon
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your bug report.
Can you confirm if this bug is related to the following bug?

It may look like a stupid question, but do you have both PS/2 and USB
mouse and keyboard connected at the same time?
Thanks

Chris,
I assume you are using a USB mouse with a PS/2 adapter. Is that correct?

The issue is fixed for me. It looks like it was crashing because of the
ATI driver (other applications were affected also). I changed to the
open source radeon driver and it didn't crash since. Hope this helps!
