I can confirm the above problem: I use a Vaio Z1 with ATI Radeon Mobility M6 LY
running Dapper with all updates.
There are regular complete lockups where only reboot is possible. When I change
from the ati to the vesa driver the system becomes perfectly stable.

I can also confirm this problem. I have a HP Omnibook 4150, upgraded from
Xubuntu 7.10 to 8.04. The xfce-terminal worked with 7.10 but there seems to be
a problem with 8.04. The terminal is blurry and unusable. I think my 4150 has a

I am experiencing a similar problem on a Vaio Z1 with Radeon Mobility M6 LY
running Dapper.
There are regular complete freezes, reboot necessary. Disabling DRI does not
help. The problem disappears when switching from "ati" (or "radeon") to "vesa"
in xorg.conf.
Using "ati" (or "radeon") certain
Swapon is not working with swap file or swap partion. Mkswap with Kernel
4.15.0-30-gernic and swapon with Kernel 4.15.0-33-gernic is even not
working.

When it happens, unity is gone, all open windows are without borders and
are not "clickable". Only workaround I know is to switch to the console
(ctrl-alt-f1), login with my user and start unity again. Then I can
switch back (ctrl-alt-f7) and continue working.
