I'm quite lost and hope you will please help me.
I'm not super tech savvy. However, I've never had much trouble opening
documents on my desktop, in my document folders, or when they've been
sent as attachments.
Suddenly, this problem is stopping me from opening docs on my desk top.

This seems to be related to my problem with gedit. It started last week
with several files disappearing from my desktop, and when I tried to
retrieve them from trash, they could not be opened and I got a message
saying that gedit could not open the docs. Check to see if the file was
binary.

This is Ubuntu 7.04, installed in January, 08. I'm technically somewhat
challenged -- my daughter convinced me to use Ubuntu, and it was a bit
of a struggle to learn the new system, but well worth the trouble.
