I see that the ppa doesn't contain a package for karmic. I'm on Karmic
amd64. Would like to install SuperCollider. What do you suggest?

running chuck.alsa s gives the following error:-
[s.ck]:line(9): undefined type 'OscRecv'...Segmentation fault
Just tried apt-get -b source chuck and that does behave the same as
the binary package so please ignore the last paragraph above.

Well I have no Idea why it has additional copys of libc.
After the bug was active a second time, and the posted solution does not
worked, I installed a other distribution because I have to work with the
system.
Missing security updates are than no goog idea.
Generally I'm missing a build in-solv
I also get this issue after the latest kde upgrade to 4.10 on 6th Feb
