First, the "Configuring memory" message is from the system BIOS, way
before Ubuntu is every loaded. So, this bug cannot be a regression.
Second, that message disappears after a minute and the BIOS continues

I have a Dell Lattitude e6410 with 10.04.1 and the proposed kernel,

I tried running the test-kernel.py file in the qa-regression-testing
package which seems to run fine with the latest code in the trunk,
modulo minor workarounds to run jobs as root from the trunk. So, I built
and installed a package just to make sure and I see the following line
