Some more details:
The armel system mentioned above is actually a Debian Squeeze system
(not Lenny!) running on a Seagate Dockstar.
The original description mentions the characteristic noise. This noise
is produces while the scanner head is supposed to move, but it is not
really moving but standi
I just tested some older versions of libsane:
1.0.20-13ubuntu2 works fine, 1.0.21-2ubuntu2 shows the behaviour
described above ...

Just installing libsane_1.0.22git-5ubuntu2ppa14~lucid1_amd64.deb from
there seems to restore the old, working condition. I have no idea what
has been changed ...

I have windows 10 installed on my computer.
I have single disk of 500gb size ( 1 partition - 50mb - system required - NTFS,
2nd partition 165 gb - primary - wherein windows 10 installed).
I tried to install Ubuntu as secondary OS in dual boot format.

I can confirm this, I have been experiencing this bug for about half a
year. I run Lubuntu 14.04 LTS, on a cheap laptop. It happens when typing
in any new tab or window, or after just having switched tabs, frequency
seemingly depending on overall CPU usage. As my CPU often runs in the
70-100% range

I can confirm this and have added the bug report to amd and intel devs.
The segfault happens when installing >= (bigger or equal to)
xf86-video-intel-2.20.3 drivers.
