I'm not sure what happened - I've been downloading CSV files in Firefox
and opening them in LibreOffice. I wasn't actively interacting with
LibreOffice when it crashed.

The workaround is worse than the symptom! I have Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 with
[AMD/ATI] Bonaire XT [Radeon HD 7790/8770 / R7 360 / R9 260/360 OEM].
I'm running the low-latency kernel, if it matters: 4.4.0-21-lowlatency

I went into the menu as described, restarted LibreOffice Calc and opened

I just noticed this. 16.04, GNOME desktop. I can't remember when the
last time I did a successful search in Evince was but it's something I
do regularly. Maybe two or three days at most since it last worked.
I'm attaching an apt-cache show if it'll help.

Hit this too and allowed "xenial proposed" yesterday. The system is

A little more Google tells me this is probably a duplicate of bug
#1587968. I too just switched to installing from "proposed" - did any of
the others on this bug?

I think the bug is in one of the underlying libraries, not Evince itself
- when I enabled "Proposed" it updated a few GNOME libraries but I don't
recall a change in Evince itself.

I have two systems, a workstation with "proposed" and a laptop with
straight Xenial. Both have the same version of Evince. So it's probably
an underlying desktop library that recently showed up in "proposed".

Public bug reported:
Ubuntu 16.04 beta, GNOME desktop. To reproduce, open LibreOffice Calc
and paste a tab-separated file into it. You'll get a dialog that looks
like the attached screenshot. Note the garbled fonts in the upper left
corner.
$ localc --help
LibreOffice 5.1.2.2 10m0(Build:2)
$ lsb
More garbled fonts - this one shows up when I open a spreadsheet that
wants to update external links.

Verified:
1. I can type in the Search field in Evince with my laptop, which does not have
"propose" enabled.
2. Evince installed version is evince 3.18.2-1ubuntu4 on said laptop,
Attaching "showpkg" for the record - will do the same for the
workstation with "proposed" when I get back home.

Same here ... seems like a total lack of response / troubleshooting
assistance from Ubuntu so I've dropped back to "stock" Xenial and am
taking myself off the email list for this bug.

I gave up on that ... took "proposed" repo out. I have a couple of
deadlines to meet and don't have time to troubleshoot a bleeding edge
repository. ;-)
