After talking with the bug filer on IRC, it turns out that dmraid arrays
are being used with LVM on top. This could be an issue in terms of
lvm/dmraid/udev/device-mapper interraction. Need to attempt to reproduce

It seems this problem even exists with a 2.6.29 kernel, so it hasn't yet
been fixed upstream. Unfortunately my knowledge of kernel internals is
non-existant, so I don't know how to fix this myself. However I will try
and see if there has been a kernel bug filed, and if not, I will file

I suspect this has something to do with the xorg input hotplug being
enabled about a week prior to the reporting of this bug. I think those
who have access to the hardware need to run hal with debug outout, but I
don't know enough about hal to be sure as to whether thats the best
approach.

I would say you still have libasound2 >= 1.0.16 on your system. May I
suggest that you check all libasound packages and make sure they are all
at version 1.0.15. The easiest way to downgrade is to download the debs
by hand, and install them using "sudo dpkg -i "

Ok, the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package wasn't installed. Once
installed and rebooted, the touchpad works again. I have to use three
fingers plus the button to right-click, but thats another bug that is
yet to be resolved since late jaunty.

Ok, removing CAP_SYS_PTRACE doesn't break anything when tested, the syslog
simply does not contain any details about what process had what privileges
dropped etc. As for dropping privileges earlier, it seems that so far as I have
tested, this is not possible, due to rtkit requiring the system db

Assertion 'pa_idxset_isempty(c->clients)' failed at pulsecore/cor
TO get a log of pulseaudio's activity, you need to firstly ill all
pulseaudio related processes. To prevent autospawning, please close all
audio related applications.
Then from a terminal, run "pulseaudio -vvv > pulse.log 2>&1" to get all
the output thats needed.
Then play your video, or whatever
