This is probably a bug in gnome-panel rather than liferea since I have
seen the same problem with both the gnome-power-manager icon and gajim.
How can I "move" the bug report?

Actually this problem hasn't occured since the ubuntu 6.06 release. So
as far as I'm concerned this bug can be closed.

I guess this is because bcm43xx driver doesn't support displaying signal
quality/strength... iwconfig always returns "Link Quality=100/100" here.
So that this is probably not a bug in network-manager, but rather a lack
of features in the driver. Right?

I can confirm this bug with xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.7.195-1ubuntu1 installed.
This is on PowerPC (iBook G4) with a Mobility Radeon 9200.

exa crashes when desktop effects
I can confirm the mentioned examples using a mobility radeon 9700 with
32mb ram.
Additionaly I would like to mention that
- in Firefox scrolling gets really slow on sites using fixed and/or
semi-transparent backgrounds or graphics.
- viewing flash movies with gnash also gives very high cpu usage
