Strange but seems to only affect Dell machines -- also tested a Dell laptop

Attempting to install Kubuntu Hirsute daily ISO

the installer failed with the following error message:

After installation and reboot of Hirsute Lubuntu daily ISO 13.11.2020
the apply full upgrade windows appears - after entering the password
nothing occurs.
I then ran "Discover" which shows 12 updates available - but will not update
again no errors.
I have attempted this on
I can confirm that this occurred on 2 boxes that I tested on Lubuntu
21.04 "Hirsute Hippo" - Alpha amd64 (20201113)
I noted that if I erased the host name suggested by Calamares then I
could enter my preferred hos tanem as usual. This only occurred if I
tried to add a prefix to the host name witho

That is correct Walter..initially I only saw this on Lubuntu as I had at
that point not tested the other flavors..actually that is the main
reason I looked at them as well. After seeing that also on Budgie I
expected I would need to refile but was not sure what package would be
appropriate.

completed with no errors.

I retested Lubuntu iso 18.11.2020 and once again had the failure.
After further testing I see that this affects all flavors so I will a new bug
report with more and the latest info. The new report is #1904866

Tested 5 different boxes 2 in virtual machines and 3 bare metal.
I did several installs on some of these machines to test both "Discover"
and the "upgrade-notifier"
Tested latest daily ISO's dated 21.11.2020 for
Xubuntu Hirsute,Ubuntu Hiruste,Ubuntu Mate Hirusute - all ran the software
updater successfully with no errors.

I have no idea as to what caused the issue but it occured in all the ISO's for
sevreal days.
Must be as you suggest a "transitory problem" - of course we will see if it
re-occurs.

Kubuntu hirsute daily booted on Lenovo V14 IIL i3-1005G1 UEFI+secure boot mode

On my test I only got as far as the Kubuntu logo after the disk checks
at boot.
