I have the very same problem.
Running u1sdtool -c has no effect, it seems to be a bug within ubuntu one...

And it works when I use another end point. I have two routers, both

Nevertheless, this bug affects me to on two different WLAN cards. One is USB,
the other PCIe.

It was introduced around the time when kernel version 2.6.31.20 was relesased.
Before that update the network connection worked flawlessly. Therefore I am
marking it as a regression.
I can reproduce this bug with the same steps Mathieu pointed out:

Running Ubuntu 9.10.
At this time, I don't have any server running Lucid available.
Both openssh-clients on Karmic an Lucid have the same problem, which should be
normal cause the client doesn't generate the MOTD I guess...

No, the version in Lucid doesn't use OSS, the pulseaudio mixer shows a stream.
Still - there is no sound.
The program start with a crackling sound and then there is silence...

PA support for the TS2 client is not going to happen. They are beta-ing TS3 at
the moment, but the adoption rate is very low.
On a sidenote: This problem does not affect the TS client alone, it's tons of
other apps using OSS...
OSS is no option, because it does not allow more than one audio sour
