Running GNOME , when selecting font hinting preferences in gnome-font-
properties, font rendering doesn't change, only if it is set to "none"
fonts are displayed without antialiasing. No matter what font is chosen,
it won't work.

Hey.
actually i have the box next to me, but it isn't in a working state. I
did dist-upgrades from 6.06 till 7.10 and afer the Dapper Drake release
everything worked fine, but since this bug is very old I don't remember
the bits and pieces :)
