FWIW I did not have this problem prior to fresh-installing Natty x64.
My previous install started as a Lucid i686 UNE install (with the
netbook meta-package removed). I upgraded to Maverick, and then Natty
using Software Update tool.
When Gnome Classic session became too unstable, I trashed /usr,

A strange thing happens to me in Gnome session after upgrading Maverick
to Natty.
After GDM login, I can't move windows completely off the first (left)
screen. They will only move so far such that about 100 px are still on
the left, then no further
