Ok, after installing the OpenOffice PDF editor, managed to correct some
typos and able to track down the bug crashing pdfedit. There were a
significant number of objects that were not properly "closed". None of
the PDF's crash pdfedit anymore. One side effect: The portions of the

But this time, I right after did:
xrandr -s 1680x1050
and it immediately changed the screen resolution successfully

Confirmed on Ubuntu 9.04 + SeaMonkey 1.1.15 build 2009030300.
Creating a new profile did not work, and I was not able to launch the
profile wizard or manager either. I *was* able to start seamonkey when
running as root, however, so perhaps the problem is related to
permissions?
