Whether or not this is a bug with gconf, I would still consider this a
bug. Something is changing/setting the permissions of those files,
which inhibits basic functionality.
I don't think that a basic user should have to know that they need to
change the permissions back to their own in the ~/.db

I just want to add my concern about this change. I think the
popup/under whatever alone is not a good idea. This will either be a
distraction while trying to get work done, or get lost under all my
windows. I would definitely want to turn that pop up off if possible.

I have an ALFA AWUS 036H USB card with an rtl8187 chip inside. It worked
in 8.04, I believe using the r8187 module, but upon upgrading to 8.10 it
seems to be using rtl8187 and won't connect to a wireless network or
turn its lights on at all.

In Ubuntu 8.10, I've tried printing multiple pages with Firefox and OO.o
Writer and it only prints one page unless I select Collate. No matter
how many pages I try to select.

Yes, it worked flawless before. I've not tried the workaround in
309314, but if I select Collate, it works fine. Pain when printing
multiple copies of select pages within a doc though.

This bug appears to be fixed (for me) in 2.0.0.18+nobinonly-
0ubuntu0.8.10.1. The correct address is now in the from field when
using an identity address.

We've seen it from WinXP machines (not using roaming profiles AFAIK) and
my own Gutsy machine using smbclient.
