Using a 13 inch MBP Retina suspend the machine either by closing the lid
or with the menu option. Then resume. All entries from the network
indicator have disappeared. The only option selectable is "enable
networking" but clicking on that has no effect. Network remains broken.
Mediascanner2 does not index appstore apps' contents. It only deals with
public information in ~/Music ~/Videos and mounted drives. It has
nothing to do with the playback path, that is dealt entirely by media
hub/music app.
There are three ways of accessing Mediascanner's stored data:

I tested now that installing Ubuntu SDK on my Intel-based laptop didn't
trigger the bug. I believe that this could have something to do with
NVIDIA as the PC in #1344990 has NVIDIA's proprietary driver installed
(I reported that bug). My desktop at work is Intel-based and no problems

I think I can reproduce this here. What I'm seeing here seems to be
related to PIN locking. I put PIN locked SIM from one operator to slot
1 and not locked SIM from another operator to slot 2. I reboot the phone
and run list-contexts. I see contexts set for slot2. I disable the PIN
lock for slot1
As said, commercial networks do not support this feature around here.
Voice mail message notification comes as regular sms message here. But
you can trust that simulation works correctly. It has been used with
several enough phones. Message going straight to the sim is a valid
case.

It will also be slow to scan only the first time. Once it has scanned

The backtrace only shows worker thread, meaning the exception is thrown
and leaked fully inside dbus-cpp. That makes this a bug in dbus-cpp, not
indicator-network.

The test above was done with krillin, image 32, ofono version
1.12.bzr6876+14.10.20140904~rtm-0ubuntu1.
The test was done by starting the monitor script and then ejecting the
SIM card.

I followed your steps to the letter (except that ~/.cache/com.ubuntu
.gallery-app should be ~/.cache/com.ubuntu.gallery) and got no crash.
The reason for rtm being old is that we have a silo (line 14 in the
spreadsheet) which has been fully tested but QA has not signed off on it

Tested with Anritsu in simulated GSM and UMTS networks, but nothing
comes through. Since ubuntu-touch ofono does not support
UNSOL_RESPONSE_NEW_SMS_ON_SIM I don't see how the voice mail interface
could work. Need to discuss with others before proceeding

So what I think is happening here is that voice call notification
messages are stored to SIM ( as they should in my opinion, see ETSI TS
TS 123 038) and not really read ever. Count is read at startup from the
SIM and it just keeps rising.
