I can confirm this bug. Started happening either after I upgraded xorg
or changed from the fglrx to the open-source radeon driver. The xorg
upgrade makes more sense to me. I'm on a IBM Thinkpad T60.

About 5 days ago I tried going back to ath5k by disabling ath_pci and
the result seemed to be just like before where I would disconnect all
the time but getting less frequent lockups. Then I tried the "linux-
backports-modules-jaunty" (sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-

I can confirm this bug. I've been having kernel panics either after I

Have you tried linux-backports-modules-karmic? I believe I have the same
Philips adapter(It's atleast a Philips adapter) on my T41p and it works pretty
well with ath5k. Same result with my T60 which had horrible connectivity using
ath5k until I installed the backport package.

I just acquired an IBM Thinkpad T42p laptop and the ath5k driver is
unusable with the miniPCI I have installed in the system. It is actually
a Philips adapter from a T40p but that shouldn't matter. I'm on Lucid

ath5k driver again about 2 months ago and had the exact same problem, so
I tried changing the channel on my AP to something that wasn't being
used by my neighbors and since then my connection has stayed relatively

Everytime i started using the ath_pci I got lockups. I used ath_pci
because ath5k wouldn't even associate to APs in a noisy environment.

After an update the other day I tried connecting to the wireless in my
University and now I get association and it remains associated. However
I do get very slow connection. My top speed was about 40KB/s for a few
seconds. I would say average speed was around 0-20KB/s. Very choppy

upgrading to 4.8.0-30-generic but that does not fix the problem for me.
I did try and turn off all monitors except the laptop monitor before
undocking and that allowed me to put the laptop to sleep. I could not

It's sort of solved. After an update later on I was able to output to
a VGA so I can now use Dual head. I am not able to use DisplayPort,
however, but I do believe that a bug report has been made for that
issue.
I guess this one can be closed then.

There is no fix for that and there never will be because that is
intended and is hardware coded (as in; not in the software/driver).
Imagine if you are playing music very loud and you quickly need to mute?

We're not being snotty and it's the functionality of the T60 is not up
to the Ubuntu developers. It's Lenovo that made the T60 function as it
does (Mute button only mutes) and that's done in the hardware mixer.
However in the T61's case it's done in software and that's what Henrique

hope this will be fixed/worked around in NetworkManager as I prefer
NetworkManager over wicd (The UI).
I would like to see an option in NetworkManager to disable bgscan until
this gets fixed in the drivers affected.
